4098 Fullerton Avenue

Objective: Tasked with proposing renovations to the historic 4098 Fullerton Avenue property, with an emphasis on reducing occupancy costs and fulfilling local initiatives (Russell Woods/Nardin Park Neighborhood Plan). Additionally, a cost estimate, floor plans, elevation views, and presentation were required.

Process: As a team, collaboratively researched renewable and cost-saving technologies, including greywater systems and solar paneling. With these utilities, we found that we could reduce utility costs to roughly 2% of an average resident’s paycheck. Further, we researched tax credits and rebates, finding that we could considerably negate the high upfront costs of our utility choices. In the two weeks preceding project presentation, we practiced our presentation and perfected it with the assistance of our mentors.

Results: Placed among top 3 winning out of competitive 8-team pool. Presentation was highly praised by mentors and judges, including professors and local ACE professionals. Achieved significant cost reductions without exceeding our budget, as determined by Detroit Land Bank Authority guidelines and local property pricing.
